Pulmonary Embolism and Uterine Venous Plexus Thrombosis in the Postpartum Period

چکیده
Pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism, which includes pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis. The incidence of venous thromboembolism is estimated at 0.76 to 1.72 per 1,000 pregnancies, which is four times higher than that in non-pregnant women [1]. The incidence of PE in the postpartum period is much higher than during pregnancy [2]. There are few reports on uterine vein thrombosis, consisting mostly of cases involving thrombi in external and internal iliac veins [3]. Uterine venous plexus thrombosis (UVPT) is a rare diagnosis. Sudden death linked to pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) in the presence of UVPT without deep vein thrombosis in the lower extremities is even more uncommon. We report a case of sudden, unexpected death due to acute PTE associated with UVPT in a postpartum woman.

Evaluation of Guidelines and Risk Factors for Venous Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism in Hospitalized Children: A Cross-Sectional Study
Background: Thromboembolism (TE) in pediatric population is rare but may be a fatal situation. There is a lack of clinical guidelines to help decision making for the use of prophylactic measures in pediatrics. This study was designed to evaluate current guidelines and risk factors for the prevention of venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (DVT/PE) in children. Materials and Methods: Th...

Result: The overall incidence of symptomatic VTE among the study subjects was 0.28% (25/9,041 deliveries), representing an incidence of Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Thrombo Embolism (PTE) of 0.22% and 0.05%, respectively. During the pregnancy and postpartum periods, 19 and 6 VTE cases, respectively, were observed. The risk of DVT was possibly the highest in the first trimester. Al...
متن کاملContribution of indirect computed tomographic venography to the diagnosis of postpartum venous thromboembolism.
BACKGROUND The diagnostic value of indirect computed tomographic venography (CTV), following thoracic computed tomographic angiography (CTA), has not been specifically evaluated in postpartum patients with suspected pulmonary embolism. OBJECTIVES To assess the diagnostic value of CTV in postpartum venous thromboembolism. METHODS We reviewed all CTA and CTV procedures performed during the la...

متن کاملDiagnosis of thromboembolic disease: Combined ventilation perfusion lung scan and compression ultrasonography
The clinical management of pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis of the legs are similar and requires prolonged anticoagulation therapy. The standard diagnostic approach in patients suspected of pulmonary embolism is ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) lung scan and compression ultrasonography to detect deep venous thrombosis. This retrospective study analyzed the role of V/Q lung scan an...
